BACK TO SCHOOL WITH HENRY SCHEIN, INC.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HENRY SCHEIN, INC. PARTNERS WITH THE CHILDREN’S HOME OF READING YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES FOR THE COMPANY’S ANNUAL “BACK TO SCHOOL” PROGRAM TO HELP CHILDREN AND YOUTH RETURN TO CLASSROOMS WITH CONFIDENCE
Reading, PA: On August 9, 2021, Team Schein Members at the Henry Schein, Inc. Denver, Pennsylvania, distribution center will be teaming up to assemble and distribute more than 350 backpacks and dental hygiene kits to The Children's Home of Reading Youth and Family Services (CHORYFS). Since 2008, Henry Schein, Inc. has provided backpacks filled with essential school supplies to children and youth in CHORYFS’s 12 program services to help them return to the classrooms with confidence.
“Back to School” is a flagship initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the Company's global corporate social responsibility program that enables individuals to give back to their communities. In the light of recent surges of new cases of COVID-19, Henry Schein, Inc. will be following its established health and safety protocols to adopt a contactless delivery of the backpacks at The Children’s Home of Reading Youth and Family Services on August 9, 2021. Though the in-person distribution will not take place this year, the excitement is still in the air as staff begins to formulate fun ideas to hand over the backpacks to the children in the programs.
“Henry Schein, Inc. has been crucial in supporting our mission of serving children and families in crisis; and strengthening their quality of life. Every year, we serve over 1,300 children and youth through our three Residential Treatment Programs that offer therapeutic mental and behavioral health services to adolescent boys, and girls. Our Foster Care, Adoption, Lehigh Valley In-home program and other award-winning community-based services provide children and youth with timely intervention and trauma-informed care. In addition, our two privately licensed schools offer alternative education services to help students with learning difficulties and behavioral needs. It is through the continued support of organizations like Henry Schein, Inc. we have been able to provide hope to the children for the last 135 years of operations,” said Dr. Vincent Lasorsa, the CEO and President of The Children’s Home of Reading Youth and Family Services.
Since its founding in 1932, the Company has pursued the ideal of "doing well by doing good.” Henry Schein has exemplified the essence of “giving back" through its “Back to School” program which has helped more than 50,000 children return to school with essential school supplies since the program’s inception.
With approximately 21,000 Team Schein Members worldwide, Henry Schein’s network of trusted advisors provides more than 1 million customers globally with more than 300 valued solutions. In the United States, the Company has approximately 100,000 products across its five-distribution center network – Denver, Pennsylvania, Jacksonville, Florida, Indianapolis, Indiana, Grapevine, Texas, and Sparks, Nevada.
Last year, the COVID pandemic installed chaos and unforeseen challenges in many organizations across all departments. Despite the challenges, Henry Schein, Inc. was at the forefront of providing PPE and essential gear such as hand sanitizers, masks, and gloves to the health care providers. Through a collaborative approach with suppliers, vendors, and partners, Henry Schein, Inc. ensured the public's safety during the challenging times, said William Hill, the Vice President of U.S. Distribution at Henry Schein.
Mr. Hill also stresses that organization's culture of philanthropy and the collective passion of giving back have been the key to fostering long-lasting connections with the communities, despite the circumstances. He added, “‘Back to School’ is just one component of the many Henry Schein Cares initiatives that enable us to help children return to the classrooms feeling confident.”
“Many of the students and their families cannot afford backpacks and school supplies. With the generous contributions from Henry Schein, Inc., our children and youth receive over 300-400 backpacks every year. They are used by our children in the residential programs, foster care program, adoption program, LV-In Home, Evening Reporting Center, and Acute Partial Hospitalization Program throughout the year. Even though we couldn’t do the backpack last year due to Covid, the kids are already getting excited about their backpack and looking forward to it this year,” said Jill Troutman, the VP of Marketing and Communications at The Children’s Home of Reading Youth and Family Services.
It's not just the kids and the staff that are excited about the Back to School program. “The Team Schein Members love the interaction with the kids every year as it leaves a profound impact on the staff,” added Mr. Hill. Due to health and safety reasons, this year’s backpack distribution will not be held at the Children's Home of Reading's main campus, but the spirits are high among all staff and kids.
