The Right Amount of Support
In the APHP, youth receive short-term, intensive care (six hours of treatment, five days a week) allowing them to benefit from consistent, structured treatment while maintaining their usual living arrangements with their families in their communities.
The APHP can provide “step down” level of treatment for those discharged from inpatient programs, or a “step up” level when outpatient treatment is not effectively meeting a child or adolescent's needs.
*20% of adolescents have a diagnosed mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, etc.
The children who attend our Acute Partial Hospitalization Program are experiencing psychiatric symptoms, emotional disturbance and behavioral health issues.
The Children’s Home of Reading continuously aims to reduce the risk factors (conditions that increases the likelihood of children becoming involved in drug use, delinquency, school drop out, or violence), through timely intervention and client-based treatment plans.

Because Recovery Can’t Wait
In most cases, within 48 hours of admission, we are able to conduct thorough Psychiatric assessments to establish a baseline, and create an individualized treatment plan based on unique needs and goals. Treatment plans include a combination of the following therapeutic modes:
Psychiatric Evaluation
Group Therapy
Medication Management
Individual Therapy
The Acute Partial Hospitalization Program uses the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Health Choices Behavioral Health Services Guidelines for mental health, and medical necessity criteria to determine appropriateness of referrals and admissions. We accept Medical Assistance and most Health Insurance Plans.
Length of Stay
The length of stay varies based on the individual needs of the client. The typical length of stay is 3 to 4 weeks. Our program maintains a close working relationship with The Children’s Home of Reading Residential Programs, which can provide a number of intensive ancillary services, if necessary.
What are Client Rights?
It is the policy of The Children’s Home of Reading to respect and inform each client and their families about client rights while receiving services through the agency’s programs. Clients/families will be informed of these rights in a manner that they can understand.
Let’s Talk…
Have a question about whether the APHP is right for your child and family? Every case presents us with a unique combination of needs, goals, and circumstances. There is no “cookie -cutter” way to give advice about the best course of treatment. So, step one is always “let’s talk”.
